A Sydney man, Chris Baghsarian, aged 85, was reportedly kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity, with a video emerging that shows him being assaulted by his captors. The incident occurred around 5 am on a Friday when intruders broke into his North Ryde home. The NSW Police confirmed that Mr. Baghsarian was taken by the group, who were mistakenly targeting someone linked to the Alameddine crime family. A video, distributed by the kidnappers, shows Mr. Baghsarian with his hands tied and face covered, as one of the captors puts their hands over his mouth and nose. CCTV footage and witness accounts also support the account of the kidnapping. The police identified a dark-colored Toyota SUV used in the crime, which was later found burnt out near Mr. Baghsarian's address. The day after the kidnapping, it was revealed that Mr. Baghsarian was not the intended target, and a group of three or more people bundled him into a car and drove away. The elderly man is believed to be alive, and the police are actively seeking his safe return. Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Commander Andrew Marks expressed confidence that the wrong person was targeted and appealed to the kidnappers to release Mr. Baghsarian safely. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities and individuals in suburban areas. The case is challenging due to the lack of a ransom demand, as the family is not involved in criminal activities. The police are working to ensure Mr. Baghsarian receives the necessary medical assistance and treatment.
