The Phillies' situation is further complicated by the current state of Triple-A pitching. The talent pool is bleak, with few viable options to call up. Teams are hesitant to promote pitchers from the minors, fearing they may not be ready for the big leagues.
In my opinion, the Phillies need to take a step back and reassess their pitching strategy. They cannot rely solely on their top starters to carry the team. Building a strong and consistent rotation requires a long-term vision and a willingness to invest in player development.
The Phillies' current approach of monitoring the DFA market and hoping for trade opportunities may not be enough. They need to be proactive and creative in their search for solutions. This could involve taking a chance on a player like Braxton Garrett, who has been kept in the minors by the Marlins, or exploring non-roster options like Bruce Zimmermann.
What this really suggests is that the Phillies need to embrace a culture of continuous improvement and adaptation. The game of baseball is constantly evolving, and teams that fail to keep up will find themselves left behind.
